How To Market Your Small Business Online

How To Market Your Small Business Online

If you are looking to attract new clients, you may well want to know how you can best market your business online.

Marketing your business online has several benefits over offline advertising, but the biggest one by far is that marketing a business online means that you are put in front of potential clients at the exact moment that they are looking to buy your service.

This is attraction marketing in its purest form.

If you think about offline marketing, such as newspaper advertisements or television advertisements (if you can afford them that is), or even some types of online marketing such as facebook or twitter ads, they are all forms of Interruption Marketing.

Someone is reading a newspaper or looking at facebook when your advertisement appears in front of them. Whether you are a consultant, accountant, financial adviser or an estate agent, your advertisement is now trying to stop that person from reading the newspaper or looking at facebook and instead look at your advertisement.

Therefore, the chances of success using Interruption Marketing are far lower than using Attraction Marketing, aka marketing your business online.

The most powerful methods of marketing your business online are:

  1. Google adwords
  2. Blogging
  3. Search engine marketing

Let’s look at these in turn.

Google Adwords
If you need instant leads for your business, Google Adwords is the best form of online marketing for your business bar none.

Someone heads over to Google and types in the type of service that they need help with followed by their location. Your advertisement appears, they click it and then are on your website. They like what they see so they fill in your contact form and you have a live lead. Simple.

If you have not used Google Adwords, or have used it but could not make it work, you are almost certainly missing out on new clients who would be quite happy giving their money to you.

Blogging
Google is now all about quality content on your website. The easiest (and cheapest) way of attracting more visitors to your website is to write a blog for your website at least once a week.

All of my clients who do this see a steady and consistent rise in the number of monthly visitors to their websites.

Search Engine Marketing
This is the most expensive option, but if you are looking for long term website growth, working with the right search engine marketing partner can produce results for you. When I say expensive option, this is because a proper search engine marketing company will charge you at least £1,000 per month. Many claim to provide search engine marketing services for £2/300 per month, but in my experience these services only scratch the surface of what is required.

I would try both of the other online marketing methods above before search engine marketing.

Summary
Marketing your business online works so well because it is a form of Attraction Marketing.

If you have not yet tried any form of online marketing for your business, why not do so now and finish the year on a high?
